On December 11, the sharing session for freshmen of Grade 2020 of School of Mathematics and Statistics was successfully held in Room 6201. Organized by the Department of Discipline Development, this activity aimed to invite outstanding students to answer questions and share experiences to freshmen, so as to help them have a more comprehensive understanding of university life, establish reasonable perceptions of the current competitive situation, clarify the goals of university life, and find the direction of development.

At 2:00 PM, the sharing session started on time. Tang Zhirui, the host, introduced the present guests, explained the main purpose, and announced the formal beginning of the sharing session.
The first speaker is Zhou Haiqian, the winner of National Scholarship. She introduced herself first, then shared the information about the student work combining with her own experiences. She said that a freshman should learn to plan the schedule reasonably and balance the relationship between learning and student work. As for learning, a freshman should be diligent, positive and aspirant; When it comes to the student work, it needs the positive attitude and enduring energy. She ended her speech with the word "persist", encouraging freshmen to seize the moment and move forward steadily.

Later, Ding Chu, the winner of Dan Gui Scholarship, gave some detailed advice on the future development of freshmen and put forward four suggestions on how to spend a meaningful four years of college life, namely: clarify the goals, enhance the confidence, seize precious opportunities and improve yourself. Taking her own development experience as an example, Ding Chu made reasonable guidance for students’ plans of their college life.

Next student who gave a lecture was Liu Xiangyu, the winner of National Scholarship, sharing from four aspects: study, student work, volunteer service, social practice and academic competition. In response to the freshmen's questions about their learning methods, she shared her own approaches, attaching great importance of listening carefully in class.

Finally, Sun Zhuoran, the winner of National Scholarship, started his speech with the importance of credit scores, supplemented by humorous slides, stressed that college students should focus on professional learning, and put forward the idea of "professional courses come first". Taking "mathematical analysis" as an example, he pointed out the key points of mathematical study in combination with the problems of mathematics competitions, and summarized four principles of doing exercises based on personal experiences: less, slower, better and deeper.

After the four speakers finished sharing, they entered the final Q&A section. The speakers patiently answered the questions raised by the audience, which won waves of applause from the audience. The atmosphere of the freshmen sharing session was fabulous, and the audience said they had gained a lot. Wei Han, an undergraduate student of Grade 2020 of School of Mathematics and Statistics, said that this sharing session provided him with an opportunity to get closer to excellent seniors, which made him clear about his own development direction and goals.
