December 26, 2020

On December 16th, the luncheon meeting for informal discussion between the leaders of school and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan was held in the conference hall on the first floor of the administration building at noon. Peng Shuangjie, Vice Chancellor of CCNU, Han Junhua, head of the Student Affairs Department of the Party committee, Peng Tao, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office and leaders of some other relevant functional departments as well as 10 student representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan including Li Cuiying and Wang Haibo attended the meeting. The luncheon meeting was presided over by Li Diao, Vice Minister of the Student Affairs Department of the Party committee.

At the luncheon meeting, 10 student representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of different grades of different colleges spoke in turn. The leaders of school and the heads of different functional departments communicated with students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on the issues related to the development and successful growth of students, the management and requirements of teaching, the infrastructure construction and logistics support of school.

In terms of personnel training, Shang Meijun of the college of Chinese Language and Literature put forward the problem of the conversion of the missing credits for students who came from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In response, Xie Yaohui, Vice Principal of the undergraduate college, said that students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan could achieve the requirements of the total credits by taking professional elective courses and general education courses. In addition, he also pointed out that the training of students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan was the same as those of other students. There were merely more initiative rights in the selection of a small number of courses for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school would continue to enrich the curriculum system to meet the needs of students. Wang Haibo of the college of Chinese Language and Literature said that the learning foundation of relevant students was relatively weak and some courses were difficult for them to learn. Han Junhua, head of the Student Affairs Department of the Party committee, responded that students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were supposed to make full use of their learning resources and actively seek help from the learning and development centers of both school and college to improve their learning ability and make up for their shortcomings in learning.

Hu Xuanyu from the college of foreign lnguages put forward the problem that the infrastructure construction of school needed to be further improved. Wu Deneng, head of the logistics department, explained that CCNU was a school with hundred-year history, and some of its infrastructures were aging, which couldn’t meet the needs of the rapid development of the school. However, the school was actively introducing relevant measures. He said that the school had raised more than 8 million yuan to upgrade the power distribution rooms in four campuses of the school to solve the problem of the power supply in 2020.

Other issues such as the ”difficulty
of traveling” of students in Nanhu and the development of the associations for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were also answered by the leaders of school and the relevant functional departments. When it came to some personalized problems, the leaders of relevant functional departments who attended the meeting said that they would timely communicate and follow up after the symposium. At the same time, they also hoped that students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan would actively reflect the relevant problems to school and discuss solutions with school so as to better build the "big family" of CCNU.

In the end, Vice Chancellor Peng Shuangjie made a summary. He pointed out that the symposium provided a great platform for communication and exchange for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as mainland students and foreign students were all a "family". He hoped that all of students could communicate extensively and "seek common ground while reserving minor differences". He also encouraged everyone to timely reflect difficulties encountered in their study and life to school and discuss solutions with school. Finally, he hoped that students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan could take responsibility, study hard, practice their skills, and constantly improve themselves so as to make contributions to their alma mater, society and country in the future.
