The Voice of CCNU At 8:30p.m. on October 7th, 2020, Guo Chang, leader of the Journalism Department of the School of Psychology, launched a training meeting themed by news writing at Room 8010, Nanhu Comprehensive Building for the campers of the 2020 Torch Training Camp. Students of the Youth Volunteers Association of the School of Psychology, the Marxism-Leninism Branch, the Organization Department and some members of the Culture and Sports Department and the Maintenance Department took part in the training meeting.

The training content was divided into two parts: the basic knowledge of news and the practical operation of school news. In the first step of the meeting, Guo Chang introduced four basic forms of campus news: interviews, news, newsletters and brief news. Among them, as a kind of news type which tests the adaptability of journalists, brief news is usually applied in large-scale events and recreational activities, requiring on-site writing and timely reporting. Then, Guo Chang made a basic introduction of news through combining the six significant elements of news, and explained the writing norms of four parts in turn, namely the title, the lead, the body and the conclusion. In the process of introducing the standards of guide writing, Guo Chang compared the narrative writing and the descriptive writing, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of writing approaches. When introducing the writing of the main content, he listed two typical writing structures to help trainees understand the news structure more quickly and pointed out a small mistake he once made in the news release, leading trainees to reflect on it and learn to make choices in sorting out news materials.

When it came to the practical operation of the school news, Guo Chang split the school news into five parts, including conference news, recreational and voluntary activities, personal interviews, competition trainings and event newsletters. He introduced different emotional tones and the working process of the school news under various circumstances. Next, Guo Chang showed the specific requirements of the submitted media about the review of articles and attached great importance to the details of the articles, taking the campus media and the national media for example.
Guo Chang stressed, “Spreading the warmth, which is relatively easy for literary works, is challenging for news articles”, expressing the distinction between literacy and news articles. Additionally, He hoped that the participants of the Department of Public information could unite and cooperate to spend the adaptation period together, and could do practical work in the new post.

When asked about her feelings after participating in the training meeting, Wu Yanling of the news Department said, “I really feel that I still have a lot of room for my improvement. In the future, I need to spend much time improving myself to be a real journalist faster.” “The training not only taught me some basic knowledge, but also gave me a glimpse into the perspective of some journalists”, said You Dongliang, a member of the Youth Volunteers Association.
