At 7 pm on December 1, the tryout of the final of the 12th National Ocean Knowledge Competition for College and Middle School Students was held in Youth Lecture Hall in CCNU. It was hosted by Dai Xinyi and Li Ruihao from College of Urban and Environmental Sciences (CUES).
After passing the written examination, preliminary and semi-final selection, a total of 10 contestants entered the final which was divided into three parts. In the first part, they answered the questions in sequence according to the competition numbers. Time for each person to answer the questions was 60 seconds. 10 points would be obtained if one answer was correct and no points would be deducted if it was wrong. The basic scores for each person were 100 points. The host asked questions quickly and the contestants answered fluently, which required the ability of on-the-spot response and large knowledge reserve. Although the competition was challenging, the competitive contestants could still maintain high levels, and Cheng Yahu answered all the questions in the first Q&A session. The content of the questions was rich and interesting, which aroused the interest of the audience to participate actively. In the next game, the audience's active participation and interesting answers also relieved the tense atmosphere for a short time.
The competition entered the second stage, which consisted of three questions with clues and two rush-to-answer questions. The score of this round would be accumulated with the last one, and the top five contestants in the final round would entered the third round successfully. The situation on the field was changing rapidly, and the contestants were catching up with each other. Among them, Cheng Yahu and Shang Yingying were so excellent that they stood out from the contestants. However, five contestants, Dong Kangcong, Liu Fangyu, Sun Luqi, Shen Xiaohan, Wang Jun, who were calm and thoughtful, encountered a bottleneck and failed the second round, winning the third prize.
Next came the most exciting section: Risk Challenge. Five contestants came out according to the cumulative score ranking and chose questions with different points to answer. The corresponding points would be deducted for a wrong answer, which means that the higher the selected points, the greater the risk. Cheng Yahu regrettably lost 30 points in this round and was overtaken by Shang Yingying by six points. Finally, Shang YingYing and Cheng Yahu won the first prize.
At this point, the game was close to the end. In the last part, the five contestants narrated their dreams of building China into a maritime power. Cheng Yahu, the first prize winner, said that during the competition, he realized how little we know about the sea and that ordinary people are ignorant of coastal defense, so he felt very sad. The audience and guests on the scene were greatly affected. The judges, Zhang Hailin, Lu Xin and Han Xu, commented on the speeches of the five contestants in turn. Besides, Zhang Hailin highly praised the contestants' spirit of maritime power, and called on the audience to actively enrich marine knowledge and set up the dream of a powerful country. Lu Xin and Han Xu, former winners, shared their experience of participating in the marine knowledge competition and encouraged more people to join the ranks of building our country into a maritime power.
After the review, the game came to an end. As the host, Dai Xinyi, said, "the significance of holding the competition is to arouse individuals’ enthusiasm for understanding marine knowledge and lead everyone to pay more attention to coastal defense."
