Counselor Salon | Training on Competition Preparation Skills for Counselors' Education Story Sharing Session

April 29, 2026

The Voice of CCNU On the morning of April 21, the 3rd Counselor Salon of Central China Normal University in 2026 was held in Conference Room 315, No.2 International Exchange Building. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education Training and Research Center for University Ideological and Political Work Teams and the Department of Student Affairs (Postgraduate Work Department) of the University Party Committee, this salon was undertaken by the Qiuzhen Counselor Development Studio and the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Two guest speakers delivered special sharing sessions, namely Wang Huanglei, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee and counselor at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, winner of the first prize in the 2020 Hubei Counselor Education Story Sharing Session; and Meiheriguli Abuduwaili, full-time ethnic minority counselor and host of the Harmony in Diversity Studio of Central China Normal University, who claimed the first prize of the 2022 Hubei Counselor Education Story Sharing Session. Yang Kejun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, together with full-time and part-time counselor representatives from various schools, attended the event, which was presided over by Yang Kejun.

Combined with rich practical experience, Wang Huanglei started from the competition scoring criteria and pointed out that high-quality education stories should be based on real facts, reflect profound truths through trivial matters, and highlight the role of counselors as mentors and trusted friends. He sorted out six major themes for story creation, including education amid major events, psychological crisis intervention, care for ethnic minority students, practical education, assistance for disadvantaged students, and daily class management. He suggested that counselors explore materials from three perspectives: personal strengths, long-term persistent work and touching moments in daily life. He also stressed the importance of emotion and detailed description in narration to fully demonstrate educational wisdom. Wang Huanglei presented his award-winning work on site, vividly illustrating how to convey the power of education through true stories.

Taking The Counselor’s Story Bank: How to Leverage Small Cases for Great Ideological and Political Education as the theme, Meiheriguli delivered her sharing. She advocated the long-term accumulation of students’ growth cases by means of mobile phone albums, memos, smart student affairs systems and other tools, and the screening of materials from three dimensions including real conflicts, emotional touching points and growth witnesses. Taking home visiting stories as examples, she explained practical skills such as four-act structure design, five-sense memory activation, golden sentence refinement and visualized narration. She emphasized that structures can be optimized while emotions must never be fabricated. Meanwhile, she reminded all counselors to observe ethical boundaries and desensitize students’ sensitive information. She proposed to convey firm beliefs with a down-to-earth work attitude and a thoughtful way of storytelling.

During the interactive session, participating teachers raised questions concerning title composition, background music design and PPT production, to which the two speakers provided detailed answers one by one. As an important prelude to the 2026 Counselor Education Story Sharing Session, this salon has effectively improved counselors’ competition preparation capabilities in terms of topic selection, narration skills and emotional expression, laying a solid foundation for presenting vivid cases of fostering virtue through education.
