August 15, 2025

To further advance ethnic unity education and promote exchanges among students of all ethnic groups, the School of History and Culture held a symposium on ethnic unity and progress education with the theme "Pomegranate Blossoms Shine on Campus, Joining Hands to Build Dreams for the Future" on the morning of June 24. The event took place at the Home for Ethnic Unity and Progress, located on the 5th floor of Building B in the New University Students' Activity Center. Attendees included Yang Jun, Deputy Director of the University Party Committee's Student Affairs Department; Wu Jiancheng, Deputy Director of the same department; Li Huazhong, Secretary of the School's Party Committee; Ji Hong, Organization Member at the department level; Liang Fangyong, Deputy Secretary of the School's Party Committee; staff from the Ethnic Unity Education Office, namely Meiheriguli, Alixiate, and Remila; as well as counselors from all undergraduate and postgraduate grades of the school and student representatives of various ethnic groups. The symposium was chaired by Liang Fangyong.

At the beginning of the event, teacher and student representatives followed Meheriguli's explanation to visit the Home for Ethnic Unity and Progress, immersively experiencing the cultural atmosphere and educational achievements of ethnic unity in the university.

At the symposium, Li Huazhong expressed his gratitude in his speech to the university for its consistent care and support for the school's work in ethnic unity and progress education. He stated that the School of History and Culture will continue to regard ethnic unity and progress education as an important part of fostering virtue through education, and actively collaborate with the Ethnic Unity Education Office to safeguard students' growth and development. Liang Fangyong gave a detailed introduction to the basic situation of ethnic students in the school. He pointed out that the school has always attached great importance to ethnic unity and progress education. Based on the characteristics of a large number and proportion of ethnic students, it has continuously improved the "trinity" education model of "precision assistance, growth empowerment, and cultural integration". Through measures such as adaptive education, career development guidance, personalized assistance, and special reward incentives, a large number of outstanding students have been cultivated, and a sound atmosphere of ethnic unity has been created.

During the discussion session, ethnic minority student representatives from various grades spoke on topics such as academic development, hometown construction, and cultural inheritance. Some students put forward suggestions regarding practical needs including the establishment of internship bases, transportation subsidies, and academic assistance. Sangdengzhuoma, a Tibetan undergraduate student from the grade of 2022, expressed the hope that internship bases could be set up in Tibet. Ayizuohere, a Uyghur undergraduate student from the grade of 2022, suggested that the university or school could provide transportation subsidies for students from Xinjiang. The attending leaders and teachers listened carefully to the students' speeches and responded to each point one by one.

Wu Jiancheng told vivid stories about the bonds of friendship in ethnic integration as one family, encouraging students of all ethnic groups to take the initiative to be promoters of ethnic culture, practitioners of ethnic unity, and facilitators of ethnic progress. Yang Jun illustrated the effectiveness and significance of education on ethnic unity and progress in the new era by citing cases from his experience of home visits in border areas, where individual identity and Chinese national identity are highly unified. He put forward three expectations for the students: "cherish opportunities, strengthen integration, and keep the country in mind". He stated that the university will continue to implement "education with warmth" through the "Six Ones" and "Five Must-Talks" initiatives, provide precise support for ethnic students in terms of academic development and other issues, and at the same time keep building high-quality brands for ethnic work, so as to create a sound atmosphere where students of all ethnic groups can "develop together and make progress together".

At the end of the symposium, the participating teachers presented classic cultural books to the student representatives, encouraging them to study diligently and practice earnestly.

This symposium stands as a significant measure taken by the School of History and Culture to further consolidate the sense of community for the Chinese nation, continuously deepen education on ethnic unity and progress, and implement detailed services and management for ethnic students. Like a plump pomegranate seed, it has closely linked the hearts of the university, the school, and ethnic students, gathering vigorous strength for building dreams together and moving forward hand in hand, thus laying a more solid foundation for cultivating new-era talents who can shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation. In the future, the School of History and Culture will continue to innovate its working methods, further carry out education on ethnic unity and progress, pay attention to students' needs, promote the common development of students of all ethnic groups, and write a new chapter in education on ethnic unity and progress.
