In order to inspire freshmen ' awareness of career planning and help them take the first step of it, Zhang Fan, a lecturer from the Career Development Education and Career Guidance Center of CCNU, attended the 20th grade evening roll call of School of Life Sciences and conducted a career planning lecture with the theme of "Metamorphosis-from this step" in the evening of Dec. 13.

"What is the difference between high school life and college life?" The opening topic sparked positive thinking among the students. Zhang Fan pointed out that the college stage is a transition period from student status to worker status, in which the students face both the task of learning professional knowledge from college and the task of learning about the job markets from outside. Now,young people are facing the most dramatic wave of career change since the industrial revolution over two hundred years ago. In the face of the industrial revolution 4.0 era, where the speed of technological change is accelerating, and curiosity, flexibility, risk-taking, perseverance and optimism are the proper mindsets to cope with the changes in the professional world.

Next, Zhang Fan analyzed the development direction of biological science and biotechnology majors in our college, taking the 2020 graduates as an example. In response to the problem of low employment intention of biotechnology undergraduates, she focused on the integration direction of biology majors with other majors, the matchable positions in biological and pharmaceutical companies, and pointed out that thinking about and clarifying future career goals is a topic that should be paid more attention to by students who plan to enter a higher school. She guided everyone to identify the career competency strengths model, discover their core traits, and pay attention to shaping transferable skills around career development goals during college.
Zhang Fan pointed out that there are systematic theories and methods of career planning, which require full exploration of oneself, proper understanding of career, wisdom of decision making and clear action plan. And the Admissions and Employment Office of the university has set up courses such as "Career Development and Planning for College Students" to help students do well in career planning, and at the same time there is a "Career Path" counseling room, providing students with "one-to-one" personalized counseling assistance.
At the end of the lecture, four outstanding alumni of 2012 class sent their messages across the air. In the video, they shared their different development experiences of going on to higher education, going abroad, entering famous high schools and famous enterprises, and gave specific advice on how to spend their college life, combining their different development paths.
After the lecture, the students said that the lecture had dispelled the confusion of them when they first entered the university and increased their courage to face the future. The lecture helped students understand what career planning is and its importance, opened their eyes to the cognitive career world, understood the basic elements of career competency, and most importantly, clarified the courses and resources that the university has carefully equipped to help students do career planning as early as possible and enhance their job-seeking and employability. As Zhang Fan said, "We are looking forward to seeing you all in the classroom and counseling room of career planning, and the school and CCNU will always be with you on the road of career development."
