In order to help students learn the employment situation in advance and be prepared in both their thoughts and actions as soon as possible, the English department of the School of Foreign Languages held an online evening roll call themed as "a talk about employment and postgraduate recommendation" for students of grade 2017 at 7pm on March 15. As a guest speaker, Wu Peibin, a graduate from grade 2013 of the department of translation, shared his experience in postgraduate recommendation and employment with students, and gave some suggestions on their current confusions.
At the beginning of this online evening roll call, the counselor Wang Li introduced Wu to all the students. She told students that Wu was recommended to the department of international organizations of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to pursue master studies. And now, he works in an embassy abroad. Wang pointed out that this is a “ transnational class” and told students to cherish this opportunity of communicating with excellent alumnus. With the students' welcome, Wu Peibin started to share his postgraduate recommendation and employment experience.

Wu mentioned the topic of postgraduate recommendation which students concerned about most firstly. He pointed out that a clear goal is a key step in the success of the postgraduate entrance exam. Everything should be planned in advance and time should be reasonably arranged. Secondly, he especially stressed that the postgraduate entrance examination and employment will affect each other. If we fail the postgraduate entrance examination, we must seize the subsequent employment opportunities.
For students who have employment demand, Wu shared his resume with them and introduced the production and design of his resume briefly. Considering the students’ interview experience was not very rich, combing his job experience, he introduced detailedly the procedure and some skills about interview with vivid language and typical cases. He focused on the difference between direct and non-direct interview, and the manners of the interview. He stressed that good interview manners can bring a good first impression to the employer. After that, Wu, based on his own postgraduate recommendation experience, introduced the preparation method of the summer camp for the postgraduate recommendation.
After the experience sharing, Wu sent out an interactive invitation to the students to answer the questions raised online. Some students expressed their confusion about the signing of the employment contract. Wu explained the signing of triple agreement to the students and emphasized that we should set a goal appropriately and sign the seal the contract rationally. “Nowadays, Students in CCNU can sign the contract online, which has simplified the process greatly. However, we still should be honest and rational”, counselor Wang added.
This evening roll call aimed to answer students’ questions about postgraduate entrance examination and employment and to clear future development of different development paths. Students from grade 2017 said that this evening roll call not only solved many basic problems, but also taught them many employment skills which will have an important guiding role in the coming studies and employment. It’s said that the grade 2017 of the English department will invite alumni and alumnae to do “sharing online” so that students could learn about themselves better, define their goals appropriately, change their opinions further and make proper career choices.
