THE VOICE OF CCNU-On October 9th，Central China Normal University held the last several competitions of the 2019 autumn sports meeting in You Ming stadium. The youth volunteers association of School of Chemistry organized a number of volunteers to serve the contestants one on one. This activity aimed to provide logistical support for athletes to help them demonstrate their style and try their best in the upcoming competitions. Despite the fact that it was the last day of the sports meeting, the athletes who took part in the games were filled with enthusiasm and so were the volunteers.
After linking up with the athletes whom they are responsible for, the volunteers were responsible for reminding the athletes of the competition time and accompanying them to sign in. At the the sign-in desk, the volunteers carefully clipped the number cloth with pins for the athletes and then helped the staff organize the logistical supplies. They asked person in charge for energy-replenishing supplies and asked for the place where there were emergency medicines for a rainy day.
At 8 o’clock in the morning, the female 800-metre run was going to begin. Athlete Meng Nanke expressed that she had not had breakfast. Volunteer Kadiriya brought her a bar of chocolate immediately. And then she mixed out a bottle of glucose in water with cold water and hot water. Moreover, she also cheered Meng up and said,” I remember that you got a high score in physical fitness test, you are sure to get good grades.”
Soon after, in the pre-final male 4*100-metre run, volunteers waited with 4 athletes at the designated areas. Athlete Chen Xiangru expressed that he had once made a mistake in prior training. So he was concerned about today’s performance. Volunteer Zhu Zicong suggested Meng to believe in the results of his hard work and Zhu also advised him to take a deep breath to relax his mind. With a gunshot, the race started officially. Volunteers also followed the athletes and ran to the finish line. When the last athlete passed the finish line, volunteers passed bottles of water to the athletes and put coats on them immediately. Volunteers helped the athletes walk slowly and adjust their status and then went back to the sign-in desk to give the number cloth back.
Athlete Yu Xueting expressed that:” during the sports meeting, we athletes and the volunteers both contributed much. Students from our School of Chemistry not only competed in sports meeting, but they also demonstrated the tenet of “friendship first, competition second” and the spirit that we should be united. The two and a half-day autumn sports meeting ended and the volunteer activities also finished successfully. But the athletes would bear the sport spirit and the public spirit in their mind forever.
