On May 24, the second lecture series of "The second phase of Surrounding maritime diplomatic Knowledge into universities" was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of the Science Hall. Professor Gao Zhiguo, President of the China Society of Maritime Law, Special Dean of the Law School of Hainan University and former judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, delivered a special lecture on "The Development and Evolution of the Modern Law of the Sea System". Chen Deming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the lecture. Nearly 200 full-time teachers, political cadres, undergraduates and postgraduates from each training unit participated.
Chen Deming said in his speech that Central China Normal University attached great importance to serving the surrounding maritime diplomacy, gave full play to the advantages of relevant disciplines and platforms, and made contributions to maritime diplomacy through personnel training, government advising, and international exchanges. It is hoped that the students will cherish this rare learning opportunity, arouse their interest and enthusiasm for maritime diplomacy, stir up the patriotic feelings of the strong country, actively participate in the construction of a maritime power and the maritime diplomacy in the surrounding areas, and strive to write a lively chapter for the construction of a maritime power.
Gao Zhiguo briefly reviewed the history and development of the law of the sea, and systematically explained the international law of the sea system with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as its main content. He explained and analyzed the law of the sea system such as internal water, territorial sea, territorial sea baselines, right of innocent passage, contiguous zone, etc., focused on the practice of China's law of the sea, and analyzed the situation and tasks of safeguarding China's maritime rights and interests. He hoped that the students could cultivate the feeling of the ocean, deepen the belief in the ocean, and contribute to the construction of a maritime power.
This event is the second lecture series of "The Second Phase of Surrounding Maritime Diplomatic Knowledge into Universities" co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the China Ocean Development Foundation. It is hosted by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee and the School of Law of our University.
During the visit, Vice President Ren Youzhou met with Gao Zhiguo. Gao visited the school history Hall and had an in-depth exchange with teachers and students.
