On the evening of Dec. 21, 2003 Youth League Branch held a league activity in classroom 3210 with the theme of "Gathering Efforts to Fight Poverty and Striving for Well-off". This activity took the national policy goal of "building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects by 2020" as an opportunity to let members understand China's efforts and contributions to win the battle against poverty. Xu Jiyan, the League secretary, was the host of the event, and all members of the group participated in the activity. Before the activity started, Xu Jiyan and all the members of the branch discussed the theme and planned the process of the activity, and made sufficient preparation for the group day activity.
The group day activity was divided into three parts: "Quiz - Gathering wisdom to help get rid of poverty", "Special industries - Striving for well-off according to local conditions", and "You draw and I guess - Promoting the whole village to get rich together". Firstly, the members watched a short video about poverty eradication under the leadership of Xu Zhiyan, reviewed the Party's planning and contribution to poverty eradication, and learned about the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, China's precise poverty eradication, the first 100-year goal and other related contents through the quiz.
After learning the basic content of poverty eradication, the members entered into the second session of the activity, "Special Industries - Running Well-off According to Local Conditions", and simulated the rural poverty eradication. All the branch members learned to make origami under the leadership of Life Committee member Peng Ziwei, simulating the special handicraft industry in the countryside. The members made origami dumplings and wrapped their wishes into them, which was a farewell to the old and welcome to the new, and a way to celebrate the prosperous new year.
The members were able to physically participate in the activities to help the special industries and also feel the strong winter solstice atmosphere.
In the game ‘you draw and I guess’, students learned four key words of poverty alleviation, namely "employment," "consumption," "relocation," and "rural revitalization," and gained a better understanding of the national poverty alleviation policy. At the end of the activity, Huang Yanlin, a member of the branch, said, "2020 is the year of the decisive battle against poverty. During the epidemic, the Chinese government did not slacken off, but continued to promote the work of poverty alleviation and gave material help to poor families at the first time. Not forgetting the mission and remembering the original intention, this is the sense of security given to us by our motherland."
China survived the toughest epidemic in 2020, and is about to welcome the final victory in the year-end closing season of the poverty alleviation. However, shaking off the poverty is not the end, but the starting point of new life and new struggle. Let's focus on the road out of poverty and strive for prosperity, and wish our country live long and prosperous!
