Mou LInfang:Be The Pioneer of the School Aesthetic Education in the New Era

December 17, 2020

In order to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statement on education and the spirit of the National Education Conference, to further strengthen the function of aesthetic education in schools, to promote the development of aesthetic education in schools, and to enrich college students' knowledge of modern music education, the second phase of the Alumni Forum of the School of Music was successfully held in classroom 427 on the evening of December 6. The forum was hosted by Dong Zhixiong, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Music.

Mou Linfang, a 1995 alumna of the School of Music of CCNU, was invited as the speaker for this forum. She is now working in Shenzhen Education Bureau, engaging in the administrative management of school aesthetic education.

Mou Linfang, combining her 18 years of practice and experience in aesthetic education, made a report entitled Be the Pioneer of School Aesthetic Education in the New Era - Talking About Talent Needs and Construction from School Aesthetic Education in Shenzhen. She gave a comprehensive explanation of the development background of school aesthetic education in the new era, the high-quality development of aesthetic education in Shenzhen, and the talent demand and construction of school aesthetic education in the new era.

Mou Linfang mentioned that although China's art education started late and still has a certain gap from some developed countries in Europe and America, the demand for art education is urgent and aesthetic education is especially important in the new era. This is not only an opportunity for our art students, but also a sign that we have a more significant social and historical responsibility. And the question we need to mull over changes from "how to be a music teacher" to "how to be a good music teacher".

Mou Linfang gave the audience a more comprehensive understanding of art education in Shenzhen's primary and secondary schools by showing a video of the achievements of Shenzhen's art education practices.

She emphasized that in order to do a good job in aesthetic education in the new era, it was necessary to grasp three "dimensions" - curriculum, teaching mode, and art evaluation. She hoped that the students in the audience would become excellent art educators in the future. She gave four suggestions on what art students need to possess: solid professional skills, relevant campus characteristics, profound cultural knowledge, and correct aesthetic orientation.

After the activity, the School of Music organized a symposium between Mou Linfang and representatives of professional teachers, and they had an in-depth exchange on ideas of music education in primary and secondary schools, the construction of teaching practice bases, and the training of musicology talents.
