The Voice of CCNU On the night of October 18th, the meeting for newcomers of CCNU in grade 2020 which aimed to convey the sincere advice from Secretary of the Party Committee Zhao Lingyun was held in the Youming Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was presided over by Peng Shuangjie, vice-principal of CCNU. Under the theme of “inheriting the spirit of CCNU and striving to be the qualified new generation”, Secretary Zhao Lingyun presented a wonderful and vivid special report. Undergraduates of grade 2020 from the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the School of Education and the School of Urban and Environmental Sciences as well as postgraduates of grade 2020 from the School of Public Administration and the Center for Chinese Rural Studies attended the meeting. In addition, nearly 7000 newcomers watched the report through the live streaming.
In the report, Secretary Zhao Lingyun appealed to students to strive to be the qualified new generation and put forward three expectations for everyone. The first was to be the successors of the 100-year fortune of CCNU in the Guizi Mountain. Revolving around the development of CCNU, Secretary Zhao Lingyun divided the history of our school into three stages and introduced the major events detailedly. He mentioned that CCNU was the first-class university with lofty status and distinctive features which brought together the western culture of Huazhong University, the traditional Chinese culture of Zhonghua University and the revolutionary culture of Zhongyuan University. At the same time, he took president of Huazhong university Wei Zhuomin, scholar of Chinese culture Qian Jibo, historian Zhang Kaiyuan, linguist Xing Fuyi and some other grand masters for example, expecting the newcomers to be the successors of the 100-year fortune of CCNU who could inherit and carry forward the essence of love, science and cause consciously.
The second was to take root in the motherland and realize the dream of national rejuvenation. Secretary Zhao Lingyun emphasized that the area，the history and the pioneers entrusted the tasks of realizing the Chinese dream to us. As a result, we should set the personal goals to serve the country, dedicate ourselves to the country and build the country. To realize the dream of national rejuvenation, the modern youth were supposed to take root in the motherland and take a firm stance on patriotism, take root in the practice and improve the ability and political integrity to protect the country as well as take root in the masses and go to great lengths to serve the country.
The third was to bear the dream of mankind in mind and strive to be the master of the changing world. Secretary Zhao Lingyun pointed out that students of CCNU were supposed to bear the dream of mankind in mind and take the whole world in view. Nowadays, China was in face of the unprecedented changes and the intricate international situation. Under the background of the great changes in the world and the reformation of education, we should lead CCNU to a modern college which was teachers-oriented, virtue-centered, ground-based and innovation-featured. He put forward three expectations for students. Firstly, they should set lofty aspirations and make resolutions to be the leader who take root in the motherland and care about the world. Secondly, they should concentrate on studying and explore the path to the future. Last but not least, they should pay attention to enhance the capacities and strive to be the students of CCNU who meet the standard of all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetic and labor capability.
At the end of the meeting, Secretary Zhao Lingyun said that CCNU would establish its confidence as an old school as well as the confidence of being the top university in the world by the 120th anniversary and he called on everyone to spare no effort to build a brighter future for CCNU.
